The lab robot
that keeps your samples moving

Most labs have automated the analysis. uLog automates what happens before and between: the transport, the handoffs, the rounds that nobody has time for.

Transport rounds eat into shift time

Walking samples between collection points, sections, and analyzers is not a small task. In a high-volume lab it can take hours per shift, per person. That is time your technicians are not spending on analysis, quality checks, or anything that needs their training.

After-hours rounds still need covering

Sample transport doesn't stop at 6pm. Night shifts and weekend rounds require staff coverage, and that coverage comes at a cost. Labs running lean can't keep absorbing it.

Every manual handoff is a potential error

When a sample moves between sections, there is a point where it can go to the wrong place or the wrong priority queue. In a clinical setting, that delay has consequences for the patient waiting on results.

Volumes are rising but headcount isn't

Clinical labs are processing more samples than they were five years ago. The workforce to handle that growth is not keeping pace. Automating transport is one of the fastest ways to increase capacity without adding staff.

How uLog fits into your laboratory automation workflow

It runs the transport rounds your staff currently walk

uLog picks up samples at collection or pre-analytics and delivers them to the right section automatically. It navigates around people and equipment and returns for the next load. Your technicians stop walking and start working.

It moves between floors and departments on its own

uLog uses elevators and opens automatic doors to reach different departments and floors. You configure the destinations once. It runs them on its own from there.

It integrates with your LIS and lab equipment

uLog connects to your Laboratory Information System and to analyzers via API. It fits into the clinical laboratory automation workflow you already have rather than sitting alongside it as a separate system. When it arrives at a device, it can signal the drawer to open automatically.

It keeps going when your team goes home

uLog runs continuously through night shifts and weekends without additional staffing. The samples that come in at 2am move the same way they do at 2pm.

uGo+: the software behind uLog

uLog doesn't come with fixed routes. uGo+ is the workflow software that lets you map your facility, define delivery sequences, set priority rules, and schedule charging, so uLog runs exactly the way your lab needs it to. No programming required.

This is what separates uLog from a standard autonomous mobile robot. It's not just a device that moves. It's a configurable laboratory automation tool that adapts to your workflow.

What uLog transports in the lab

Sample distribution rounds

uLog starts each distribution round at pre-analytics, picks up serum tubes, blood samples, and urine samples, and delivers each to the right section. When the round is done, it returns and starts the next one. Staff load and unload at the stops.

Hematology section

Hematology receives a high volume of time-sensitive samples. uLog delivers racks directly to the bench, where staff unload and confirm. As soon as the handoff is done, it moves to the next delivery.

Internal Logistics

Consumables, reagents, and supply boxes move around the building constantly. uLog handles those runs the same way it handles samples. Staff stop leaving their workstation for supply runs and stay where their work actually is.

Emergency requests

When an urgent request comes in from the emergency department, waiting for the next regular round is not an option. uLog can prioritise emergency routing, getting critical samples to the right section faster than a manual system allows.

Multi-department delivery

Some labs span multiple floors or wings. Staff walking samples between departments cover serious distance over a shift. uLog maps the building, takes the elevator, and covers that ground without anyone leaving their workstation.

uLog also comes in a secured version for transport through public areas

In some hospitals, samples need to travel beyond the lab. Through public corridors, across wards, from the emergency department to the central laboratory. For those routes, uLog Locker uses RFID-controlled locked compartments so samples are secure during transport, regardless of who is in the corridor.

In use at BG Unfallklinik Murnau

BG Unfallklinik Murnau introduced uLog Locker to transport blood samples from the emergency department and hospital wards directly to the laboratory. The hospital named their unit Olaf. In the first weeks of operation, Olaf saved nursing and lab staff around 2.5 hours per day by taking over the courier runs between departments.

Dr. Martin Erdmann, head of the central laboratory, on the first weeks of testing:

"Olaf ensures excellent division of work. He takes over the transport runs and frees up employees to focus on their core tasks."

The response from staff was immediate. According to the hospital, Olaf's reliable performance and its animated blinking eyes both contributed to how quickly the team took to working alongside it.

In use at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol

The Laboratori Clinic Metropolitana Nord processes more than 12,000 biological samples every day. uLog, deployed there under the name EMILI, handles transport across the lab continuously: serum tubes, urine samples, hematology deliveries, and logistics runs between sections and floors.

Results

8,000+ samples transported per day by a single uLog unit

10 km covered daily across sections and floors

90% reduction in the distance lab staff walk for transport

3,800 daily sample requests handled without manual courier runs

What the lab team says

"It handles transport tasks that until now were done by laboratory technicians. We gain speed in processing the analyses, we gain quality in the results, and ultimately the patient benefits."

Maria Garcia Valdelvira, Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol

"It's a much better distribution system. We have it much more under control."

Vanessa Martinez Aguilera, Lab Technician, Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol

Built for clinical lab environments

Also need a robot that works at the bench?

uLab Mobile

uLog handles the transport layer of laboratory automation. For labs looking to automate the work that happens at the bench itself, uLab Mobile goes further: pipetting, decapping, loading centrifuges, and operating analyzers. The two robots work together in the same lab environment. uLog delivers, uLab Mobile processes.
